Our Story

I have always considered dogs to be part of my family. When I was four years old, I adopted Maria from the SPCA. I cared for her like she was my child and loved her dearly for 14 wonderful years. This joyous childhood bond I shared with Maria was the beginning of my lifelong devotion to animals. In the years to follow, there were more four-legged family members and a revolving door of foster dogs.

In 1994, shortly after my husband and I were married, we rescued Blue, The Sounds of Baby handsome cover model. Soon after, we adopted Ruby. Blue and Ruby were like our first children!

When I found out that I was pregnant, I read books on how to prepare your dogs for your baby's arrival and consulted our pet trainer and veterinarian. I felt like the dogs were ready to happily accept our new bundle of joy. But when our daughter was born, we quickly realized that none of us were prepared for the disruptive noises that had invaded our lives. As soon as the baby started to cry, Ruby took off through the dog door and Blue hid in our bedroom. The dogs were stressed by all the new sounds and, as the mother, I felt guilty and sad, knowing that I hadn't done enough to prepare them for the changes they were experiencing.

I decided I wanted to help other families cope with this potentially traumatic situation. With my background in film production, I recorded all the babies I knew and produced The Sounds of Baby CD. I carefully arranged the sounds to gently expose pets to an increasingly extreme array of noises. The positive associations created by using my training process help develop the special bond between family pet and new family member.

The CD is intended as a supplement to basic obedience training to help every member of the family, both two-legged and four-legged, continue to grow and thrive.
